Centre is an international congregation, with the Netherlands and Africa well-represented. It often has many visitors to spark interesting conversation, because it is in the centre of the touristic city.
Centre’s services are led by piano, guitar and singers; we use a mix of modern and older English-language songs, and the format of services is Holy Communion (Sundays 1 and 3 in the month) and Service of the Word (Sundays 2 and 4), all according to material from the Church of England, and all starting at 1000. The ancient building has good facilities for coffee-time, and is fascinating for those interested in the history of the church and indeed of Amsterdam. Centre is particularly convenient for access by public transport (Metro: Waterlooplein or Rokin; Tram: Munttoren). A recent congregation survey had “Welcome”, “Family-friendly” and “Community”, as primary reasons for attending Centre.
Children’s and Youth work operates with a skilled local team. The Youth of South and Centre congregations often meet together. All helpers and leaders in that work are fully checked both by the Dutch and the Anglican safeguarding systems. The same is true of prayer ministry, offered after each service.
It is an ancient building and only the main worship space is wheelchair- accessible.
The Interim Minister, Kerry Buttram, is the main preacher at the Centre.
